Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Program Manager, the BHS Clinician will assist in the delivery of behavioral health services by providing mental health and substance abuse counseling to individuals, couples, families and groups. In addition, this person will provide case management and other duties as assigned. Counseling services will involve mainstream and non-mainstream approaches including collaboration with traditional healers, working within the client’s cultural frame of reference, and reaching out to the extended family. The BHS Clinician will utilize FNCH computer systems for tracking and data collection.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Responsibilities:
Provides professional, ethical, and culturally competent direct client services. Services provided include prevention/education, screening, assessments, diagnostic evaluations based on the DSM-V, treatment planning, mental health and/or substance abuse counseling, case management, support group facilitation, crisis response and intervention, inner and inter-agency referrals, and other services which may be required to promote the mental health of the individual(s) and families in treatment.
Collaborates with BHS staff and other providers to establish patterns of cooperation and to facilitate patient care and follow-up.
Coordinates the provision of mental health and/or substance abuse and case management services within the BHS department in order to facilitate effective and efficient client services delivery.
Collaborates with primary care and all other departments to establish patterns of cooperative effort in order to facilitate patient care and follow-up as requested by Program Manager.
Has knowledge of complementary healing modalities, including massage, acupuncture, EMDR and traditional healing in order to make appropriate referrals.
As requested, provides professional, ethical, and culturally competent direct client services at school based centers. Services provided include prevention/education, screening, assessments, diagnostic evaluations based on the DSM-V, treatment planning, mental health and/or substance abuse counseling, case management, support group facilitation, crisis response and intervention, inner and inter-agency referrals, and other services which may be required to promote the mental health of the individual(s) and families in treatment.
Serves as an advocate for clients with other agencies ensuring that clients receive benefits and services for which they are eligible.
Develops and maintains accurate and up-to-date client case records in compliance with behavioral health record keeping requirements.
Facilitates and/or co-facilitates group sessions as requested by Program Manager.
Works collaboratively with billing department to ensure as accurate recording of patient encounters.
Attends weekly BHS staff meetings and case staffings. Utilizes meeting and case staffing time in a effective manner.
Provides crisis-on-call coverage as scheduled by the Program Manager to ensure 24 hour access to services.
Assists BHS team in preparation and provision of professional training for staff and outside agencies as assigned.
Participates in community planning and implementation of programming as assigned by the Program Manager.
Participates in staff development activities by attending workshops, seminars and conferences as approved by the Program Manager and Chief Executive Officer.
Performs other duties as assigned to comply with federal, state and agency requirements.
Participates in program and resource development planning sessions.
Assists with audit preparation as requested by the Program Manager.
Works collaboratively with community organizations in the promotion of prevention services.
Clearly communicates relevant administrative and organizational information to program staff.
Working with internal departments, assist in preparations for meetings, conduct follow-up, assist and ensure referrals for services to families are followed through in a timely manner, assist in presentations.
Assist in collecting data as assigned by the Program Manager or Chief Executive Officer.
As requested by the Program Manager assist with establishing MOA’s with key stakeholders.
Engage in activities that will build community capacity to serve the target population (e.g., provide trainings, information networks, and joint cooperative ventures).
Maintain regular contact with all partners including reminding them of upcoming meetings, trainings, etc.
Complete monthly report summarizing activities.
Submit monthly reports to the Program Manager by the third of the following month. Monthly reports should detail quantitative and qualitative descriptions of activities.
As requested by the Program Manager, attend related meetings to support partners.
Regularly meet with the Program Manager to review the program’s activities.
As requested by the Program Manager, participate on the agency’s Quality Assurance Committee.
Makes appropriate referrals for high-risk clients to other health care professionals and programs.
Follows HIPAA regulations and preserves strict confidentiality of client information.
Assist with conducting 3 BHS presentations in the community. These presentations do not involve distributing BHS program materials but involves providing a 30 minute presentation in the community. These presentations occur quarterly and will be detailed in the BHS monthly reports.
Assist with 5 BHS marketing and program promotion activities that include having a booth at a health fair, community event, etc. whereby BHS materials are distributed. This will be evidenced in the monthly reports detailing the event, number of participants and number of BHS materials distributed. These activities will occur at least twice quarterly and will be detailed in the BHS monthly reports.
Collaborates with other providers where there is an interchange of program participants to establish patterns of cooperative efforts.
Will utilizes electronic health records system (EHR) to document all patient encounters.
Assist in data collection and reporting as requested by the Program Manager.
Make referrals to appropriate programs and/or agencies as indicated (e.g. Medicaid Enrollment, Dental, Primary Care, etc).
Performs other duties as requested by the Program Manager.
Achieves a minimum score of 85% and above on audits by funding agencies.
Organizational Responsibilities:
Mandatory participation in at least two FNCH community events annually.
Demonstrates culturally sensitive care to clients and families and preserves strict confidentiality of client information
Adheres to all FNCH policies and procedures.
Assists in the efficient operation of the clinic by coordinating patient services through interaction with clinic staff and other FNCH programs.
Ensure a minimum of 15 Consumer Satisfaction Surveys are completed and submitted to the Program Manager on a monthly basis or as requested.
Demonstrated support initiatives of FNCH and other FNCH program/departmental activities.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
Minimum Requirements:
Education/Experience:
- New Mexico current licensure as an LISW/LCSW, LMSW, LPCC, LPC, LMHC, LADAC, LAMFT, LSAA or LMFT required.
Previous experience in a counseling setting required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other requirements:
Knowledge and skills in the use of computer hardware and software, word processing programs, spreadsheet, Excel
Ability to work independently with minimum of supervision.
Willingness to participate in cultural activities both within the agency and in the community.
Energetic and versatile.
Knowledge of the cultural, social and economic backgrounds of the populations served.
Effective written, communication, and organization skills are a must.
Knowledge of cultural and spiritual needs of target population.
Ability to provide written and oral reports concerning program activities.
Knowledge of the mission, programs and requirements of FNCH.

Physical Environment Aspects:
Office setting with repetitive duties in a very active noisy clinic setting with structure and established procedures.
Extensive key-boarding data entries and filing, use of office equipment including computer, calculator, copy machines, fax machines, scanner, lab equipment, etc.
Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize telephones and computer terminals are required. Ability to lift and move computer equipment.
- Physical activity including walking, standing, bending, and lifting are required daily. General good health, dexterity, visual acuity, hearing and speaking are necessary
- Travel to other clinics and training/meeting sites.
- Incumbent will be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and facility in working environment.
- Work outside the normal hours to complete program requirements.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds, required.
